The Burnaby School District offers two French Immersion Programs:
- The Early Immersion Program begins in Kindergarten or Grade 1 and continues to Grade 12.
- The Late Immersion Program begins in Grade 6 and students integrate with the early immersion program throughout their secondary education.
Students entering the Early Immersion Program work in French for most of the day up until Grade 4. English is slowly integrated in the program throughout the intermediate grades. Late Immersion students are fully immersed in French in Grade 6 and English is re-introduced in Grade 7.
Students generally do very well academically in French Immersion. Our French Immersion Programs are expanding and include two secondary school locations at École Moscrop Secondary School and École Cariboo Secondary School.
